Green Robot Studios was founded in 2017 with a focus on the development of interactive stories and experiences based on the cultures, history, and people of Unama'ki-Cape Breton.
Our team members live across the island and for most of us, it's the only place we've ever called home.
From 2017 to 2021, Green Robot Studios developed about one project per year, focusing on experiences that were historically or culturally significant in Unama'ki-Cape Breton. Projects have included interactive exhibits for Parks Canada National Historic Sites (Alexander Graham Bell, Fortress of Louisbourg), and Membertou Heritage Park. For more details regarding these projects, please visit the Green Robot Studios website at www.greenrobotstudios.com.
Green Robot Studios' most recent interactive cultural experience was in collaboration with Membertou First Nation and its Heritage Park centre. The team worked closely with Membertou Heritage Park to develop an interactive and immersive experience that transports visitors back in time to a Mi'kmaw village in an area called Kun'tewiktuk ("at the rock" in Mi'kmaw).
The experience allows visitors to experience Mi'kmaw life as it was thousands of years before contact. It serves to honour the memory of the ancestors of present-day Membertou, whose families were, for the first time in Canadian history, legally forced to relocate by the Exchequer Court of Canada.
Our work with Membertou Heritage Park introduced the rich storytelling history of the Mi'kmaq.
Mi'kmaw stories and legends are virtually boundless. Stories include fantastic adventures, mythical heroes, talking animals, monsters, ogres, magical creatures, great battles, and countless tales of heroism, spiritual journeys, and battles between good and evil.
