About Us

We're a studio devoted to celebrating the culture and history of Unama'ki-Cape Breton.

Territory Acknowledgement

We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) people first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

The Studio

Green Robot Studios was founded in 2017 as the digital entertainment division of VMP Group, a digital agency established in Unama'ki-Cape Breton in 1995.

Green Robot Studios' main focus has been on the development of interactive stories and experiences based on the culture, history, stories, and people of Unama'ki-Cape Breton.

Striving to be an Ally of the Mi'kmaq

Members of our project team have been working with partners in the Mi’kmaw community for many years.  This project is the result of careful thought and consideration.  It is fueled by a desire to share with the world some of the incredible stories and adventures found in Mi’kmaw folklore.  Video gaming has become a common ground that unites us across communities and cultures.  It provides an opportunity to share these stories with a potential audience of millions.

We strive to be an ally of the Mi’kmaq.  Allyship comes with responsibilities to recognize realities of discrimination, to support the struggle, and to transfer the benefits of privilege to those who have less.

We realize that we will always be learning in this commitment.

Language

As part of our allyship journey, we are presenting the game’s narration and dialogue in Mi’kmaw to help support the effort of indigenous language preservation and education.

Scholarship for Mi'kmaw Youth

As part of our allyship journey, we will also be donating 5% of gross revenues of game sales to a scholarship to help Mi’kmaw youth get involved in creative and technical industries so they can continue sharing these incredible stories with audiences across the globe.
